Fr. Wild Forum Recap and Environmental Sustainability
Wednesday, December 31, 1969On Wednesday February 27, the Marquette University Student Government hosted another successful Fr. Wild forum. Approximately 35 non-MUSG students attended this semester's forum. Students asked Fr. Wild, Senior Vice President Kliebhan, and Provost Shrock questions about a wide range of issues including sexual assault, tuition & financial aid, housing, student representation, the decision not to renew Sweeney's lease, and the turnover of academic deans. Another topic that was addressed was environmental sustainability. MUSG has been working very closely with the administration this semester to address environmental sustainability.
In response to student concern, the administration formed the Environmental Sustainability Task Force and charged Mike Whittow with directing all efforts related to sustainability. The task force is composed of three Marquette University Vice-Presidents, two members from the Office of the Administration, two faculty members, and me. At our last meeting, the Task Force identified four areas where the University can improve. As a result, four work groups have been created which will be comprised of administrators, faculty, and, most importantly, students.
Students are an integral part of the University's plan to become more sustainable. Each work group has a Student Director, who is responsible for informing students about work group meetings and encouraging them to attend. All students are welcome to participate in work group meetings. The Student Directors for each work group are as follows:
- Recycling - Casey Lembke
- Vendors - Lianna Bishop
- Energy Conservation and Alternative Uses - Becky Goossen
- Future Buildings - Sadie Tuescher
If you would like to attend the meetings of a particular work group, please email the student directors. They will be more than happy to let you know about upcoming work group meetings.

NIU and the Fr. Wild Forum
Wednesday, December 31, 1969The events that occured on Northern Illinois University's campus last week were both tragic and heartbreaking. It reminds all of us of how precious life really is. To show solidarity with those impacted by the tragedy last week, MUSG has placed a poster outside of the MUSG office (AMU 133) with the NIU logo and the words "Forever in our thoughts and prayers." The poster serves as a forum for Marquette students, faculty, and staff to write messages to those impacted by shooting. We will be mailing the poster to NIU at the end of the week. Please take some time out of your busy day to pause and let those at NIU know that you are thinking about them during this time of sadness and grief.
The second semester Fr. Wild Forum will be in occuring on Tuesday, February 26 from 7-8:30 P.M. on the first floor lounge of the Alumni Memorial Union. The forum gives students the unique opportunity to ask senior level administrators questions about the direction of Marquette University. The panel will include Marquette President Fr. Wild, Provost David Shrock, and Senior Vice President Greg Kliebhan. Please come with questions prepared!
Similar to last semester, MUSG is implementing a "Where's Wild-o" advertising campaign. When you see the Fr. Wild cardboard cutout around campus, go to the MUSG website to register your name to win an iPod at the forum! You must be in attendance to win the iPod, however.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the forum!

BROCK BANKS ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT'S BLOG!
Wednesday, December 31, 1969Marquette Students,
Welcome to the MUSG President's Blog! This is a new tool that MUSG will be using in order to inform students about the organization and how it represents students. I hope to update the blog at least once a week, so please be sure to check it often.
The beginning of second semester has been very busy! Each January, the MUSG President chairs a committee to select the new MUSG Program Vice President. This year, the committee nominated Ms. Claire Anglim to serve as the next Program Vice President. She was confirmed by the MUSG senate on Thursday, January 24. She will be replacing the current PVP Matt Robinson, who has done a terrific job while in office.
MUSG has been working with city officials and the University to address pedestrian safety issues on Wells Street. In December, the city conducted a gap check that revealed very few "safe crossing gaps" at the intersections of 14th & 15th and Wells. MUSG will be meeting with representatives from the University and city to discuss proposed plans to make Wells Street more pedestrian friendly.
Please check back soon for more updates about important issues that MUSG is addressing.
