The Empowerment Plan CEO Veronika Scott to Speak on Marquette Campus

Marquette University Student Government, in collaboration with student organization Active Minds, are excited to announce that Veronika Scott will be speaking on Marquette’s campus Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Lunda Room. The Lunda Room is located on the second floor of the Alumni Memorial Union.

Veronika Scott became CEO of her own company at the age of 24, wanting to create change in the world. The Empowerment Plan is a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of those in the homeless community. The goal of the organization is to hire those that occupy homeless shelters to manufacture a coat. This coat then transforms into a sleeping bag at night. These free coats are distributed to homeless people that are living on the street through partnerships with outreach organizations in communities around the nation.

Scott will be speaking about her experiences in the realm of design, entrepreneurship and nonprofit. The idea behind The Empowerment Plan came to Scott while doing an assignment in one of her college classes. She had to develop a product that had a significant need; since then, she has been able to fulfill the important need of warmth with her transformative sleeping bags.
