MUSG Approves New SOF Member, Introduces Legislation

Senate introduced two pieces of legislation and voted on a new member of the Student Organization Funding committee at its February 23 meeting.

Freshman Abbottsford Hall Senator Cameron Vrana and senior Off-Campus Senator Thomas Schick introduced Amendment #12, Clarification for Impeachment and Removal from Office Procedures, in an effort to update MUSG By-Laws to align with current expectations for Senators.

Sophomore McCabe Hall Senator Brian Touhy introduced Recommendation #4, Acquisition of All Terrain Vehicles by the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD). MPD recently shared with MUSG a proposal to pilot use of ATVs to supplement policing strategies in areas including the Avenues West neighborhood. If passed, Recommendation #4 will be an endorsement of MPD’s proposal.

Senate will debate and vote on Amendment #12 and Recommendation #4 at next week’s Senate meeting.

President Pro Tempore Aliya Manjee, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, was elected to the Student Organization Funding committee. A seat on the Student Organization Funding committee was vacated last week after College of Health Sciences Senator Ricky Krajewski was elected to the Budget Committee.

Students from Marquette Mazaa attended the Forum for Concerned Students to voice concerns about the Student Organization Funding processes. Executive Vice President Natalie Pinkney invited any students interested in running for MUSG Executive Board or Academic Senate seats to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union Ballroom D.
