#MUmania 2013: A week of events welcoming students back to campus

Marquette University Student Government extends a warm welcome to all incoming and returning students with #MUmania! #MUmania 2013 is a week full of fun events running from Monday, Aug. 26 to Saturday, Aug. 31. It is fast approaching, and this year’s activities do not disappoint! On Monday, Aug. 26, students can kick off #MUmania, with MU Montage from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Westowne Square. Students will by help paint a giant Marquette-themed mural outside the Alumni Memorial Union. In addition to helping create a work of art, students can play plenty of outdoor carnival games including a milk-bottle toss, a rubber duck game as well as play games of bags—this event is the perfect “welcome back” to the Marquette community.

Tuesday night is going to be filled with laughter; that’s right, the #MUmania Comedy Show is back, starting at 7 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium! This year, #MUmania is welcoming Marquette Alum Eric O’Shea. Eric has hilarious stories of Marquette’s past and is well known for his “Songs for Commercials” routine in which he gives popular products suggestions for songs to put in their ads. Also performing are the loveable goofballs of the Studio 013 Refugees, Marquette’s only student improv group!

#MUmania continues Wednesday evening with the Student Showcase in the Weasler Auditorium from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Join us as Marquette’s student performance groups take the stage for a night of music and dance. Marquette Women’s Basketball coach Terri Mitchell will host the showcase featuring performances from a capella groups Gold ’N Blues, The Naturals, The Meladies and dance groups Hype, PURE and Dance Inc. New students will be able to get a great feel of the talent on our campus.

Thursday evening, Marquette students are invited to enjoy an outdoor screening of the summer blockbuster “The Great Gatsby,” based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. There will be free popcorn, 1920s themed drinks and door prize raffle for students to enjoy, making the Gatsby experience that much sweeter.

On Friday, Aug. 30, Westowne Square will become an all-out party for #MUmania with Block Party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Featuring a live DJ, dance floor, mechanical bull,  a photo booth and more, Block Party will be an unforgettable night!
