MILWAUKEE (February 14, 2013) – On Thursday, Feb. 14, Marquette University Student Government Senate elected the new Student Organization Financial Senator and confirmed the Communications Vice President for the 2013-2014 academic year. The election of the Residential Student Organization Funding Senator began when both candidates, Senators Jurgena and Theis, spoke on why they wanted the Residential SOF Senator position. After majority of 2/3 votes, Senator Emmaline Jurgena was named the Residential SOF Senator. Jurgena is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Following the election, President Van Boxtel spoke on behalf of current Communications Vice President (CVP) Alex Lahr as the appropriate candidate for the CVP position in the coming year. Lahr spoke about his love for the organization and how he wanted to continue the momentum of the Communications Department for another term. After a majority vote, Senate confirmed Lahr to the position for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Executive Vice President Daufenbach wanted to remind students that the final deadline for Student Organization Funding will be Feb. 22. He also reported that the candidacy deadline for next year’s MUSG President and Executive Vice President and Academic Senator is Feb. 25. CVP Lahr also stated that applications for the MUSG Communications Department are due Feb. 22.
Senator Schultz announced that the Core Curriculum Review Commitee met on Feb. 13 and approved four new courses for the Core of Common Studies: SPAN 3300 Spanish History and Culture (tentative title); BIOL 1410 Biology of the Human Disease; THEO 2200 Theology in the Writings of C.S. Lewis; and THEO 2250 Ignatian Spirituality. THEO 2200 and THEO 2250 are still pending a clarification on whether they meet the Core Curriculum requirements.
MUSG wants to remind students that Speak! + Coffeehouse will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Weasler Auditorium. President Van Boxtel also noted that this semester’s student forum with Rev. Scott Pilarz, S.J., more affectionately called the “Fr. Pilarz Forum” will take place on March 19.
