MILWAUKEE (April 21, 2012) – The Marquette University Student Government’s (MUSG) fiscal year 2013 budget was presented at Thursday’s Senate meeting. Brittany Riesenbeck, Financial Vice President, stated that new events will be introduced in 2013, while the major events commission of the Program Board, which is responsible for both a fall act and the spring concert, will be eliminated due to Milwaukee’s other entertainment offerings and an inability for all Marquette students to attend.
A new Coffeehouse Series featuring live music will be sponsored by MUSG in 2013. Riesenbeck also noted that more money will go to outreach to facilitate more interaction between MUSG and other student organizations and member.
“The Outreach line [on the budget] is great because MUSG can get involved and not just be an independent entity that doesn’t work with other organizations,” said Riesenbeck.
The Senate approved the 2013 fiscal year budget with a 26-0 vote.
MUSG advisor Kate Trevey announced that Organization Involvement Link is up and running. All Marquette organization presidents must register their organization by May 11, 2012 to be able to register for fall O-Fest.
Tommy Hayes, Student Organization Senator, said that his committee is looking into the Recreational Center’s rules for coed intramurals. His committee is also looking into the Student Organization Funding (SOF) process.
With a 25-0-1 vote, Justin Alexander was elected the President Pro-Tempore. Alexander will facilitate communication between all MUSG committees. Stephanie Marecki, Business and Administration Senator, nominated Alexander for the position.
“Justin is always prompt and organized and looking to do new things,” Marecki stated.
