MILWAUKEE – (Dec. 2, 2011) – Thursday night Marquette University Student Government Senate welcomed Ian Jamieson, Coordinator for Student Organizations and Leadership, to present on Collegiate Link. Collegiate Link is Marquette’s new campus event registration and program platform. The name “Collegiate Link” is a temporary name until a final name is determined for the site. The current event registration process, through the Office of Student Development, was tedious and inefficient, but with the new online platform students can register for an event whenever and wherever. Jamieson emphasized that Collegiate Link cuts down on paper use, saves time and money and is more efficient for all parties involved. Once a student submits an event through Collegiate Link, Jamieson instantly receives an email alerting him of the new request. Registration requests are specifically tailored for organizations and questions pertaining to their events.
With this new platform, all student organizations will be required to attend at least one of the nine workshops at the beginning of spring semester. The workshops will undergo a tutorial on how to best utilize Collegiate Link. Through Collegiate Link, student organizations will have the opportunity to post flyers online, directly link their events to Google calendar or Google Plus, and post their Facebook, Twitter, and blog links on their profile page. Each organization has the capability to make their page open to the public or keep it private for only university students.
Collegiate Link will be up and running for students to create profiles and begin utilizing on Monday, January 23. Starting Monday, February 6 paper event registration forms will no longer be used. Once an event is submitted on Collegiate Link, it will be archived so that student organizations will have access to all their previous documentations. Marquette’s ultimate goal for Collegiate Link is to have all students and student organizations registering and utilizing this site.

Senate appointed, sophomore, Brittany Riesenbeck to be the new MUSG Financial Vice President position for the 2012 academic spring semester. Brittany spoke to her prior experience with the MUSG Finance office as well as outside experiences in which she can apply towards the position. “The most important thing is to make sure that we are spending the student’s activity fee in a way that best represents all students,” said Brittany in response to a question regarding next year’s budget. MUSG welcomes Brittany as the newest member to the Executive Board.
MUSG Senate also approved three new student organizations: yoga club, minority student health care organization and the undergraduate nonviolence study group.
Senate also allocated Marquette Men’s Club Lacrosse $4,809.96, which covers their full cost dues to the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League. The Marquette Waterski and Wakeboard team was allocated $2,955.00 to cover their registration fees, lodging and travel costs for tournaments throughout second semester. And Marquette Ski and Snowboard team was allocated $3,150 for conferences and registration fees.
President Ciccone announced that the second roundtable discussion will be held on Monday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center on the first floor of the AMU.
MUSG’s Late Night event, Christmahanakwanzika, is Friday, December 2 at 9 p.m. occurring on the second floor and in the ballrooms of the AMU. Tickets are still available for the Christmas in the City excursion on Saturday, December 3. Buses depart for Chicago from SHAMU at 10 a.m. and return to campus at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in the Brooks Lounge.
MUSG’s final event of the fall semester will be Late Night Breakfast, Wednesday, December 14 at 9 p.m. in the AMU ballrooms. All students are encouraged to come and enjoy the free breakfast.
Lastly, financial office assistant applications will be accepted until the end of the semester and can be found on the MUSG website or picked up in the MUSG office, AMU 133. The early SOF deadline for non-club sports will be January 20 of the 2012 academic fiscal year.
